Yorkminster Presbyterian Church is seeking a Director of Christian Education & Children's Ministry

Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, a central part of the York County community, is located on the historically rich east coast of Virginia. As a well established congregation, our numbers have reached upwards of seven hundred in the past five years. In particular, we have gained an exceptional number of families with young children.

Qualifications

The individual seeking this position should exhibit personal commitment to daily practices in prayer, the study of God's word and the seeking of Christian fellowship. The applicant should possess educational experience, with a natural affection for children. The applicant should be enthusiastic about growing our children and families in the knowledge of Christ. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills will help in building and nurturing meaningful relationships within the congregation.

Responsibilities (will include but are not limited to the following)

Plan and implement programs for Children's Ministry

  • Support and encourage parents for their role in developing their children's faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
  • Provide guidance and education for children to accompany the church's participation in the sacraments.
  • Plan and coordinate staffing for ongoing children's ministries.
  • Build upon and expand concrete objectives for Children's Ministries.
  • Develop and promote special and/or seasonal events such as VBS and the Advent Celebration.
  • Coordinate and recruit children and advisors for programs such as Passport Kids Mission Camp.

Plan and implement programs for Christian Education

  • Nurture understanding of the Reformed tradition and growth in the Christian faith.
  • Assess current needs to develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated curriculum for Sunday school and adult education classes.
  • Oversee the recruitment and training of teachers.
  • Plan Bible studies and retreats for adults and children.

General Administration

  • Ensure that all volunteers receive and maintain child abuse prevention training.
  • Be a colleague in ministry to other staff members and provide guidance and support to Christian Education committees.
  • Collaborate with staff to maintain and update Sunday school rosters.
  • Publicize curriculum offerings/class changes and identification of teachers.
  • Perform duties as supervised by the pastor/head-of-staff.
