Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, a central part of the York County community, is located on the historically-rich Virginia Peninsula. As a well established congregation, our numbers have reached upwards of seven hundred in the past five years. In particular, we have gained an exceptional number of families with young children.
We are seeking a part-time organist. The position involves two Sunday morning worship services and a Wednesday evening choir rehearsal. Other duties include accompanying soloists and ensembles and special seasonal services; weddings and funerals receive additional compensation. Salary is commensurate with experience and ability.
The church has a 3-manual Allen MDS-65 organ and a Yamaha 6' grand piano.
Qualifications
The individual seeking this position should exhibit personal commitment to daily practices in prayer, the study of God's word and the seeking of Christian fellowship. The applicant should possess church organist experience, with an ability to work well with others.
Normal Duties (may include but are not limited to the following)
- Perform at both Sunday services (8:00 AM to noon)
- Wednesday evenings (5:30 PM to approx. 8:30 PM); duties may include:
- Rehearse with children attending church educational programs
- Flute Choir rehearsal (direct)
- Brass Choir rehearsal (accompany)
- Chancel Choir rehearsal (accompany)
- Special worship services: Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve
- Ensemble & soloists - practice and performances
Infrequent Duties (when warranted, but not very frequently)
- Bell Choir rehearsal (accompany; Thursday 7:00 PM to approx. 8:00 PM)
Occasional Duties (additional compensation available)
- Weddings & wedding rehearsals
- Funerals
