Support in sacred moments
LIFE EVENTS
Yorkminster Presbyterian Church is honored to be part of life’s sacred moments, offering support and guidance through baptisms, weddings, and memorial services.
Each of these significant events reflects our faith in God’s presence and purpose in every season of life. Below, you’ll find more information on how we celebrate and honor these milestones as a community.
Baptisms
Yorkminster baptizes people of all ages.
Infant baptism expresses that it is God who chooses us for faith, discipleship, and salvation; without God, we have no power to claim these things for ourselves. However, we affirm that people come to faith at different stages in life, and recognize the baptism of children and older believers as an equally valid expression of the sacrament. Children who wish to be baptized must meet with the pastor to discuss their expression of faith. Older youth and adult believers must be planning to join the church.
In the spring we conduct Confirmation Classes for youth to provide them with a foundational understanding of our faith, tradition, and Presbyterian practices. Youth can then profess their faith and join the church. Baptism is part of this process for youth who were not baptized as infants.
Weddings
As Christians and Presbyterians, we believe that Christian marriage is a sacred covenant instituted by God through which a man and a woman are called to live out together their lives of discipleship.
A prospective bride and groom wishing to be married at Yorkminster should be professing Christians, one of whom is an active member of Yorkminster or another Presbyterian church or has a close family member who is. Special consideration is given to active duty military.
A member of the Wedding Guild and the Facilities Coordinator are available ato assist in planning a ceremony that emphasizes the sincerity brought to it, the affection that makes it rich, and the wealth of meaning which lies in the vows taken. During the required premarital counseling the pastor will help the couple understand the commitment they are making to each other and to God.
Please see the Wedding Policy for specific details & fees.
Memorial Services
Presbyterians believe that in both life and death we belong to God.
While we live in the promise of resurrection, we also know death brings loss, sorrow, and grief to all. The church office should be notified as soon as possible following the death of a church member or their immediate family member. The pastor will provide support for you and your family in your time of grief and loss and assist in making arrangements for the service. A memorial service in the Presbyterian Church is understood to be a "Witness to the Resurrection". Yorkminster’s memorial services are designed to remember the deceased, give thanks for this person’s life and acknowledge God’s power over death. Services are conducted for church members and their immediate family. Women of the church provide a modest reception following the memorial service.
